Recently, I came across a site called Themeshaper, where I read an excellent tutorial on how to develop wordpress themes from scratch. There are 11 lessons there, but I don’t have time to read them at once. So, I want to bookmark those lessons. But my bookmarks in Firefox are already numerous and I don’t want it to become more dirty. So, what should I do? At that time an idea sparked in my mind, save that webpage as PDF file.
I started searching online for freewares and online services which allow me to save a webpage as PDF file. There are many softwares and online services which offer you to save a webpage as PDF, but many of them are not user friendly. I only found two reliable solutions to this problem. They are doPDF and pdfonfly.com
1. doPDF :
doPDF, actually is a virtual print driver. Yes, it actually installs itself as a printer (though it is not) and saves anything (.doc, .xls…) into a PDF. With this virtual print driver it makes itself universal, so that it can convert any file into PDF. All text/Office productive softwares allows you to print.
For example, consider you have a .doc file. To convert it into PDF, all you have to do is to open that .doc file with MS-Office and then print it (ctrl+P). In that print dialog box, you have to select doPDF and print. Now doPDF will save that file as PDF. Similarly, to print a webpage, you have to open that webpage in your favorite browser, then print that file PDF using doPDF. That’s it.

2. PDF on Fly :
pdfonfly.com is a free online service which allows you to save a webpage as PDF. You can also write any text online and then save it as PDF onto your computer. I recommend you to use pdfonfly to save webpages as PDF. Because it is very simple to use and also accurate. Also, I found that doPDF didn’t worked correctly with some websites. When I tried to print those wordpress theme tutorials as PDF, doPDF didn’t print the whole page. Some lessons in that tutorial are very lengthy, when we actually print it, it uses several papers. But what doPDF did is that it printed that whole page as a single page by skipping a lot of content. This made me look for an alternative and I found pdfonfly.com. All you have to do is, just enter the URL of the webpage you want to print and then pdfonfly will convert that webpage as PDF and lets you download that converted PDF file. I didn’t found any problems with pdfonfly.
