Ubuntu Wired connection problem : Solution 2

Well Ubuntu Geeks, this is another workaround for network problems. Before reading this process I strongly encourage you to read this workaround and see whether it fixes your problem or not. If that solution doesn’t work for you then try this procedure.

I had a problem with Ubuntu Network Manager when I was using DSL.

I didn’t used pppoeconf from terminal, rather than that I setup DSL in Network Manager. After a restart I found that the Network Manager is not showing any wired connections that were connected. The wired connections just vanished and the only connection shown is DSL. Also the network indicator (those computers in panel) show that the network is not connected. The indicator is only connected when I use DSL.

The workaround is simple. Open Terminal and type

sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

Enter the password when prompted. The interfaces file will be opened by the Text editor and you find some text like this :

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Now remove the # from The loopback network interface and The primary network interface and save (ctrl+s) the file. Now the text has to be like this

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Restart your computer and see whether the network manager is working or not. You’ll see that a wired connection with name Ifupdown is active now.
