Integrate Download Managers Into Google Chrome With Download Assistant

Using Download Manager with Chrome has become compulsory for those who are on slow internet connection because the in-built download manager doesn’t have pause-n-resume feature. Though some download managers like Orbit, DAP integrate well into Chrome others like Free Download Manager, Flashget etc has no integration at all. If you love Google Chrome and desperately want to integrate your download manager into Chrome, then Download Assistant is for you.

Download Assistant is an extension for Chromium based browsers (Google Chrome, Comodo Dragon, SRWare Iron etc) and it integrates external download managers into Chrome. As of Now, Download Assistant integrates only few download managers like

FlashGet, FlashGet Mini, Thunder, Mini Thunder, QQ Whirlwind, eMule, Orbit, Internet Download Manager and Free Download Manager in Windows
Wget, cURL, Aria 2 and Axel in Linux

It works with Windows and Linux only. No support for mac and also the number of supported download managers are less. It supports direct links only, hence it doesn’t work with download portals like download.com, filehippo etc. So, there is a long way to go for Download Assistant to become like Flashgot. Still, I recommend it because having something is better than nothing!

Solving Users Bulk Upload Problem in Google Apps

Recently, my brother-in-law is having issues in creating users in Google Apps. Whenever he tries to upload the .CSV file via bulk upload feature in Google Apps, an error message from Google Apps server is being displayed.

So, he told me about it and asked me if I can fix it. Now I tried to upload the .CSV file and I received the same error. So, I thought it might be an issue with Google Server. After few days I tried again, to see if Google fixed anything. Still the same error. So, after thinking for a while, I tried a workaround and it worked.

The Problem :

The actual problem is the huge number of users in the .CSV file. My CSV file has more than 2,700 users. By seeing such a huge number, Google Apps Server is sending me an error instead of processing that CSV file.

The Solution :

After seeing repeated error messages from Google Apps Server, I decided to divide that huge single list into 3 small lists, with maximum number of 1000 users per CSV file. So, I divided that 2700 users as 1000, 1000, 700 and saved them in 3 different .CSV files. Now I uploaded those 3 CSV files individually. All the 3 files are now successfully uploaded to Google Apps Server.

So, if you are facing the same error then try to divide your big user list into smaller ones, upto 1000 users per list and then upload them.

Want to use Gmail offline? No!!

Google has recently released Gmail offline version. As usual I tried it because I love whatever Google does. There is some point of creativity in the ideas of Google. They do release some excellent products and most of them are free. That’s why I like Google. Coming to the point, Gmail offline also comes with some useful features like :

Choose which messages to get downloaded : All the offline email clients like Outlook, Thunderbird can be used to view Gmail. But the disadvantage is that they download all the emails from our inbox. Myself won’t even look at emails older than 3 months, so I don’t want to download emails older than 3 months and Gmail offline implements it fantastically. You choose the emails to download to work offline. This is one important feature to lookout.

This is on one side of the coin. On the other side Gmail offline has some bugs. I have more than 1 gmail account. When I type gmail.com in my browser it loads the offline version by default, there is no way to change it. When I enter the offline-deactivated account, it shows me this error even though I am connected to internet.

Obviously the error is reasonable. But there is no way to go to online gmail with Google gears (offline Gmail) installed. The solution to this is either going to gmail online (which is not possible when you install Gmail offline) after several attempts. Or else open other Google products like orkut and login from there and then go to gmail. The other solution will be changing the other email to offline. But Google promises to improve the Gmail offline in 2010. So guys, to don’t be in a hurry to use Gmail offline. It has some bugs for now. Wait for a month or two till all the major bugs are fixed. As for now, Gmail online is way better than Gmail offline.

Install Winrar and Sun VirtualBox. Now follow this video tutorial and install Google Chrome O.S. beta on your PC!

Alternatively you can download this video from Rapidshare (WMV, 15.2 MB). You can use your gmail account to login through Chrome OS. You must have internet connection to use Google Chrome O.S.

Google takes on Microsoft Bing with their new Image Swirl. Google Image Swirl makes your image search more visual. Everyone knows how much impact had Bing made with its new look and feel. Microsoft has neatly shaped Bing to look stylish, still the major share in online search market is retained with Google. Till now Google concentrated on improving the accuracy in search results, now Bing had made Google to concentrate on the user interface too. Google was very much at it and Image Swirl was the result of that.
