- Ahhh… Windows is boring!
- This is nth time that my system crashed due to virus, incompatibility issues…
- I’ve mastered windows and what next?
May be some of you are facing these kind of questions today and on your way to find the answer you came here. Here you’ll find answer if you are looking to shift to Linux. I’ll try my level best to answer this question.
If this is the first time you gonna use Linux and moreover if you are shifting from Windows then I advise you to use LinuxMint. I prefer LinuxMint because it comes with basic things such as a web browser, Mplayer (which plays any file), Openoffice – a free alternative for Microsoft Office, Evince – PDF reader etc. So for a novice it’s the best. Many other Linux distros also has many of these applications except the media player. In other Linux distros such as Ubuntu etc you have to install codecs such as GStreamer to play songs and videos. So without hesitation go with LinuxMint.
- Download LinuxMint Live CD from here.
Also I advise novice users not to go with KDE environment. Go with Gnome. There is misconception that KDE looks similar to Windows hence it is easy to use Linux with KDE environment. In the previous statement the former part is true but not the latter part. In my opinion KDE environment is for advanced users and Gnome for novice users. At last the choice is yours.
