Just few hours back Windows Team has published an article announcing the editions of Windows 8. I was surprised to see that there are just 3 editions, compared to the 6 editions of Windows 7. I think Microsoft has dedicated itself to remove every clutter from their products, starting from redesigning a new sleek & clean Windows logo to reduction in number of editions (who knows what surprises are in store).
I personally think the reduction in number of editions is a great move by Microsoft. Windows 8 will have the following editions :
- Windows 8
- Windows 8 Pro
- Windows RT (Aimed at Tablets and ARM powered devices)
Note : There is another version aimed at enterprises and businesses.
As you can see, there are just 2 editions available for regular home users (PCs). It’s easy to choose from 2 editions. Windows 8 edition is equivalent to present Windows Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium, whereas Windows 8 Pro will be equivalent to current Windows Professional and Ultimate editions. Below is the comparison between Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT.
Price of these editions are not yet revealed. So, we should wait for sometime till they reveal more details about these editions.
